I’ve got swants

I want to thank all the amazing people who came to the NGY Studio open house last night! I wish I could get everyone here from all over the world, those who couldn’t attend were missed! The NGY community is made up of so many awesome people! If you are in the area, stop by on Tuesdays anytime between 10am and 9pm for some help with your projects or just a little fiber company, I am looking forward to open crafting time all day!

Club news, the Winter round of the Who’s Your Doctor Club opens for sign-ups at 8pm CST tomorrow (Friday, November 15th) in the shop. It will say sold out until the sign-ups open. There will be a shop update tomorrow as well with lots of new Boy Genius repeatables and some instocks just in time to finish up that holiday knitting (you have started, haven’t you?)

About the swants! I’ve been wanting to knit some pants for what seems like FOREVER. My entire knitting group has listened to me talk about it over and over and have been kind enough not to tell me to stuff it and get them made already. Then, like a wonderfully amazing sign from above Westknits posted a tutorial on upcycling a sweater into some pants, aka, swants.

I finished a sweater in the NGY Clever in the colorways Gank Demons, How Insignificant I Find You, and I’m Jello Shots at a Party. This sweater was cursed from day one – I switched patterns, I ripped out, I restarted, then when I was finally done it was 2 sizes too big. I did not even want to rip it out AGAIN so I did the unthinkable, I tossed it in the washer on HOT (not once, but TWICE) and a hot dryer trying to shrink it down. It still did not fit me comfortably. Superwash is seriously super.

Life is too short for knitwear you hate so I proceed to cut it up into swants. Those before photos are terrible but that is what you get when you are chopping up and sewing crotches into sweaters while sitting on the floor pantsless at 1am.

Let me tell you, I love them with all my heart. They are warm, comfy and just make me happy. I think I will need to make a few more pairs. Perhaps the next pair with have some granny squares running up the sides a la track suit stripes. I have no regrets chopping up that sweater. I also had a pretty good time with our little mini photo shoot.

Keep calm & carry salt.
