As a supporter of marine conservation, this organization is extra special to me as it not only promotes conservation and education but it does it via art and the founder is a fiber artist (check out the crochet wire shark armor!). When approached to help with a Shark Week contest I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help promote the organization.
Sharks have been around for more than 400 million years and are extremely crucial to the oceans ecosystem and it’s environmental balance. In recent decades their populations have been drastically decreasing due to finning, bycatch, over fishing and most recently, culling. It’s important that we do what we can to keep this species alive and doing well. Thus, what a better way to spend shark week than creating a shark inspired piece of artwork to help spread the positive message on sharks!
Ocean4 specializes in bringing the interactive experience of art and education together for visitors at zoos and aquariums. Ocean4 uses art as a vehicle to bring conservation issues to the forefront while challenging people to engage on a deeper level. They have some amazing projects, check them out, like their Facebook page and let your local zoo and aquarium know about them!
If you would like to share with your guild, fiber group, or local LYS a printable flyer can be downloaded as a PDF.
